Fraudsters deepfake CEO's voice to trick manager into transferring $243,000
It's already getting tough to discern real text from fake, genuine video from deepfake. Now, it appears that use of fake voice tech is on the rise too. That's according to the Wall Street Journal, which reported the first ever case of AI-based voice fraud -- aka vishing (short for "voice phishing") -- that cost a company $243,000. Don't miss Hard Fork Summit in Amsterdam In a sign that audio deepfakes are becoming eerily accurate, criminals sought the help of commercially available voice-generating AI software to impersonate the boss of a German parent company that owns a UK-based energy firm. They then tricked the latter's chief executive into urgently wiring said funds to a Hungarian supplier in an hour, with guarantees that the transfer would be reimbursed immediately.

2017 Year of AI & Digital-Payments Vinod Sharma's Blog
– I wish you all a very happy New Year 2017. Payments especially Digital-Payments look really easy; which is why innovation is so hard. In last few years we have seen tsunami kind of disruption in payments services, which led eCommerce, wallet services, Digital-Payments, and remittances to just explode. Artificial intelligence with its subsets like Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Artificial Neural Networks made this industry almost to an explosion point. Artificial Intelligence and any discussion around on how this has gotten to so much deeper in Fintech and what benefits it has provided; unfortunately beside Digital-Payments discussion rest of the points will remain out of scope for this post and we will discuss about AI and its merger with FinTech in other posts in later year.

Why bots could replace apps on your phone: Bots and chatbots explained
The word bot is used to mean several different things. Gamers understand bots as AI characters in a game, while botnets are groups of hijacked computers which cyber criminals use for various tasks such as sending out millions of spam emails or even to attack and attempt to take down websites. The bots we're talking about here are essentially virtual assistants, much like Siri and Cortana. Only the latest generation of bots communicate via text rather than speech. Cortana already does this, both on Windows Phone and in Windows 10.
